Overview

Founded in 1992, Yapi Kredi Culture Centre (also known as YKKS, namely Yapi Kredi Kultur Sanat) is a cultural institution at the heartbeat of Istanbul, located on historic Istiklal Street, more specifically in Galatasaray Square. Its focus is on exhibitions and exhibition-related activities such as conferences, workshops, talks, panels, and movie screenings on painting, sculpture, archaeology, graphic arts, literature, and other cultural disciplines. Yapi Kredi Kultur Sanat’s extensive range also covers literature, art history, cinema, and photography as well as creative literature for researchers, teachers, children, and art lovers of all ages and experts.

Refurbished in 2017, Yapi Kredi Culture Centre’s building is one of the most important landmarks of Istanbul with its experimental architecture.

  • 1995 - “Fikret Mualla Paintings” on the paintings of famous Turkish painter Fikret Mualla
  • 1999 - “1000 Purple Years in the Mediterranean” on Byzantine coins that belong to the Yapi Kredi Collection
  • 2000 - Portraits of the World: Old Ottoman and World Maps” on old maps drawn by Ottoman as well as international cartographers
  • 2003 - “Troy: Journey to a City Between Legend and Reality” on famous Troy civilization and its history, myths, and stories.
  • 2005 - “Sacred Incense to Fragrant Elixir: Perfume” displayed 500 bottles and documents from the medieval Islamic, Ottoman, and Early Turkish Republican periods.
  • 2007 - “Anatolia 12,000 Years Ago” on the Neolithic past of Anatolia especially focusing on Çatalhöyük and other Neolithic settlements in Turkey.
  • 2011 - “106 Years of Hattusha” on the Hittite civilization’s capital Hattusha that is in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
  • 2019 - “Balkon = Balcony” on the photographs taken by world-famous Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk from his balcony in Istanbul.
