Located on the most famous pedestrian street of Turkey, Istiklal Street, Meşher takes its name from the Ottoman Turkish word meaning “exhibition space.”
Overview
Founded in September 2019 in the former building that housed Arter between 2010 and 2019, namely Meymenet Han, Meşher is an exhibition space characterized by a broad spectrum of disciplines. As a brand-new exhibition and culture-art space, Meşher not only organizes exhibitions, but also workshops, panels, and publications related to their exhibitions.
The building that houses Meşher (Meymenet Han) was first mentioned in Charles Goad’s map as “Friedmann Apartments.” However, dated to 1932, Pervititich Map mentioned it as “Meymaret Han”; whereas the 1950 map of Suat Nirven named it “Meymenet Han.”

- From its name on Pervititich Map of 1932 (Meymaret Han), it is very possible that the building that houses Meşher was built by Greek architect Petraki Meymaridis Efendi.

Where is Meşher?
Meşher is located in Şişhane, Beyoğlu. The best way to get to Meşher is to take M2 Metro, take off at Şişhane station, Istiklal Caddesi exit and walk down approximately 200 meters down Istiklal Street.
